Canadian CCEMC Grand Challenge Grant

Through my work with Pioneer Energy and Carnegie Mellon, I am involved in a recently awarded Canadian research grant from CCEMC Grand Challenge, which is a global competition to develop technologies to find uses for carbon dioxide emissions, and hence to inspire provide market solutions for climate change. Department of Energy RPSEA Grant

Through my work with Pioneer Energy and Carnegie Mellon, I was involved in a concluded U.S. Department of Energy research grant from RPSEA (Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America), whose goal is to perform research on new unconventional oil and natural gas resources in the United States. Michigan Police Department Workshop

In May 2007, Dan Hussain and Prof. Donovan held a 3-day workshop with CLEMIS, the IT Department for the Oakland County, Michigan confederation of police departments, which is the largest confederation of police departments in the country, located just north of the City of Detroit. During the workshop, Michigan police told the inventors the major problems with known police IT systems.

The inventors invented several important solutions to the problems identified by the Michigan police, and filed several U.S. patent applications directed to such inventive solutions. The security patent subset generally covers systems and methods for using an integrated camera and sensor network with a correlation engine that correlates two or more events weighted by the attribute data of the cameras and sensors used to capture video and other sensory data. Such correlations could effectively connect crime related events to specific sensor data, other legacy system data, 911 calls, anonymous tips, and video records.

Intelligent Correlation Engine

In 2007, Dan Hussain and Prof. Donovan developed an intelligent correlation engine system that can be used for safety, security, and business process monitoring. As just one illustrative example of how the system can be used for intelligent monitoring, we designed a system to monitor horses for a serious medical condition, colic, which can lead to death.

This monitoring system was designed to work 24/7, including at night, and allowed the veterinarians and the owners to sleep sound knowing that their thoroughbred horses were being intelligently monitored in real-time. This system has applications to human healthcare, construction safety monitoring, business process monitoring, and many other applications in the industrial internet.
